Call me a white-girl, but I am a total sucker for those boho, minimalist, or hipster kinda styles! Most of my clients featured in this guide dress somewhere along those lines. And don’t forget you’re totally welcome to bring two or three outfits with you! Another option (if you’re like me and reeeally can’t decide) is bringing about five or six different pieces to decide on and mix-and-match when we get there.
ADD SOME MOVEMENT
My favorite kind of “pose” is MOVEMENT. There’s no room for stiff + awkward photos when things are moving and flowing naturally! And that doesn’t just apply to my posing tactics, that goes for clothes too! Ankle length, flowy dresses or skirts that let the wind toss them around or long, cozy cardigans to pair with jeans + boots are a great way to add some super fun flare + action to your photos without you really having to do much!
DRESS IT UP
As much as I love the casual styles, I freaking LOVE those simple elegant, whimsical-woodland kinda vibes (mostly cuz it’s just really fun to twirl a dress, ya know what I mean?)! Another upside is dresses + skirts have flatter every figure + look freaking AMAZING on basically anyone! I recommend bringing a dress that makes you feel like the gorgeous woman you are + that you won’t mind getting the hem possibly a little dirty. But again, you’re totally welcome to bring both casual and whimsical/elegant styles! And if dresses aren’t your thing or you don’t want to risk getting it dirty, no worries! Bring a few different outfits to choose from so we can mix + match!
Some of these might be obvious to you, but keep reading cuz there might be something you haven’t heard or thought of!
Bold, distracting logos: Unless it’s for a fun photo-op idea, I recommend staying away from any logos, graphics, or text. They can be super fun to wear but they tend to distract + take center attention in the photo really easily.
Neon, ultra bright glowy colors: Try to avoid those ultra bright, glowing colors as they tend to distract the eye from you, cast weird reflections on your skin + environment, and make it more difficult to nail great tones in camera and in post-processing.
Athletic wear or sweatpants: Trust me if it was socially acceptable to wear sweatpants + a t-shirt literally everywhere, I wouldn’t think twice about it! So I know they’re comfy but let’s leave that for uber cute + cozy in-home sessions!
Anything you don’t like wearing: For reals. If it’s something you have never worn before or will never wear anytime in the future, don’t bring it to your shoot! I want you guys to feel 100% yourself + comfortable during our time shooting, and wearing something you’re not comfortable in or just straight up don’t like tends to show once you’re in front of a camera.
